Highlands Mormon Helping Hands Project

Mavhudzi Primary School Mormon Helping Hands Project

The Highlands ward of the Harare Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints went to Mavhudzi Primary school in the rural village of Chikwaka in Goromonzi district,to carry out their Mormon Helping Hands project, which was to repair and paint the broken doors, windows, desks and chairs. They also thoroughly cleaned the school including toilets and walls in preparation for the kids' return to school after holidays.

Church members also donated a large consignment of books, toys and clothing and other stationery items for the children. The school has about 425 pupils.

Minister Herbert Murerwa, who also attended the occasion, linked the Church with the school.

This project was a follow up after the Humanitarian arm of the Church known as the Latter Day Saints Charities commissioned a motorized borehole and a grinding mill for the school. The school and neighboring areas water source was a few kilometers away until the Latter Day Saints Charities drilled and motorized a borehole at the school. The borehole benefits a lot of the residents in the neighborhood other than the school teachers and students.

It is hoped that the educational materials donated by the church will go a long way to accord the school and its students facilities enjoyed by their urban counterparts.
